TIFFANY KEYWOOD
To those of you who already know my work and those of you who are new here, Welcome to The Yoga of Sound, Movement and Naturopathic Nutrition.
The principle aim and process of Yoga is to unify the mind, body and spirit. Thus to awaken to and recognise our true nature (our undivided selves) and to fully embody this understanding.
In a world that seems more divided than ever, where we are struggling to find and maintain a steady state of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance it feels more important than ever to practice some form of Yoga. As Mahatma Ghandi once said, we must “Be the change we wish to see in the world”. Change occurs firstly within the self and like the soft waves of crystal sound that ripple endlessly in to the universe so too does the sound of our hearts intentions when we find the courage to make the inner changes required to live peacefully within our own bodies and to help create the world we wish to inhabit.
The power to heal lives within each and every one of us. All that is needed are the right conditions to connect us to the force upholding life itself. There is no magic pill - It might help in the moment - but without deep inner enquiry, the dis-ease is pushed further in to the living organism only to manifest later as something else.
It is up to us to create the conditions for health in our lives rather than the conditions for dis-ease. Place a seed in poor soil, without sunlight, warmth and nourishment and what will you end up with? If the plant grows it will be weak, small and susceptible. Provide the seed with the right amount of water, light and nutrient rich soil and you will have a strong, healthy and resilient plant in your garden. So, how are you tending to your seeds - the vast collection of cells that make up ‘you’?
The brain is the master controller of every system, organ, tissue and cell in our bodies. But it is the fluid functioning of the nervous system - our body’s coordinator - that optimises our physical, mental and emotional health.
In this increasingly fast-paced, technologically driven world our attention is perpetually drawn outwards so our nervous systems become overloaded and stressed. It is one thing to experience stress in a moment, but quite another to not turn it off. Environmental and electromagnetic pollution, dehydration, de-natured artificial foods, eating on the run, alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, lack of physical movement, fractured relationships, poverty and a myriad of other sufferings all equate to stress. Our nervous systems are screaming but we cannot hear until dis-ease manifests and we are forced to pay attention.
It is important to remember that the nervous system tells us HOW we are and not WHO we are. When the nervous system is overly challenged it is very difficult to change the habitual thoughts, feelings and behaviours that keep us locked in perpetual, often unwanted, cycles. However, if we can gently turn towards the ways our experience is held in the body and brain and learn to regulate our nervous systems by engaging in models of processing such as The Yoga of Sound, Movement and Nutrition, we can change how we respond to life’s challenges. By soothing and calming our nervous systems in to a more relaxed state of peace, we can change how we connect with ourselves, with others and with the world around us.
